I really love this painting. I think it's your three girls hanging from your apron or bound to you. I especially love the top of the apron, you painted it so well.
Looks like you're carrying a big load comprised of many different components. I love the dolls tucked into the apron strings. I'd like to keep my girls there for awhile longer!
The apronned dolls are my favorite metaphor. I like that the symbols are light – the apron and the pearls as symbols of femininity and maternity. It drives me crazy when people make overly contrived, heavy-handed metaphors.
Here’s a total guess on some things that you might have thought…
Apronned dolls... Tenuous hold on our kids and those we love - loosely tucked in the apron. I’m wondering if the dolls could also refer to part of us that wants to hold on to our kids while they are young. Down the road is more messiness and getting old and increasing complexity. Part of us wants to hold on to the simple versions of our kids.
Balanced shoe... Perhaps this alludes to the balance of taking care of the “parts” and the “people” in our lives. The "head" part of the figure is taking care of the necessary, seemingly trivial things (like keeping shoes stretched) while the “heart” of the figure takes care of the “people”. (Thus the location of these symbols - ie dolls near the heart).

On a more serious note, this makes me think that mothers are constantly engaged (bound?) in a nuturing, creative process.

I love the painting and before I even read your caption I thought the painting is very symbolic of a stay at home mom.
